Venison Crock Pot Recipes Tips and Tricks

Venison crock pot recipes tips and tricks. Some people, and some kids don't care for venison's gamey taste.

We asked around and here are some of the tips and tricks that we have come up with.

-When making roasts or steaks you can put them in cold water overnight first. This helps them from tasting gamey.

-Marinating steaks in zesty Italian dressing is good.

-Roast and Steaks: Also milk, buttermilk, and coke help cut that gamey flavor. (not all together each was used on different occasions)

-When using ground venison it is good in chili and spaghetti.

-For just hamburgers my aunt mixes the venison 1/2 venison and 1/2 hamburger. For meatballs she uses 1/2 venison and 1/2 pork sausage. This does two things she says makes it less gamey and gives it some fat to cook with. She said she also uses beef bullion instead of the 1/2 and 1/2 method.

-We don't mind the wild gamey taste ourselves but: our observations have been that BBQ-ing takes the gamey flavor out. Also anything with a tomato based sauce like sloppy joes, spaghetti, chili etc... We like garlic and onion on our steaks. For our roasts we use what we use for beef roasts: lipton onion soup, garlic powder and water. We have tried using liquid smoke and we did not prefer it and would not do that again. Although we have wondered if it would be good with BBQ sauce and liquid smoke together!

-Our favorite meal is to make a roast that we cook overnight in the crock pot then we cut up some of the roast in small cubes. Then we mix it with pork and beans and BBQ sauce. It is a earthy campy type recipe that we just love!
